History Will Absolve Me. ~Fidel Castro.Awkward.
*Cough*
Speaking at a Federalist Society event where Justice Neil Gorsuch gave an apparently highly-partisan speech and a bunch of Trump people were also featured speakers, Mike Pence said he had no right to overturn the election.
Awkward.
I have to wonder how long it's going to be before the world collectively turns on this dude.
Because we live in a world where stating the obvious is apparently considered bad, at least by some people, but especially by Republicans and the media.
But apparently Ultimate Toady...who loyally stood there, teary-eyed with devotion, while Trump insulted him and damn near everybody else...has some level of self-preservation instincts and/or a spine after all.
Good.
I just would like to point out that if some people were chanting that they wanted to hang me, it wouldn't have taken me
over a year to speak up.
And for must of that time, Mike Pence has just sort of stood there and taken this bullshit.
I would not have.
Especially given that I remember what some Evangelicals said about that.
Seriously, a couple years ago now, some Iowa Evangelical said Pence was like a "Submissive wife" to Trump. I wonder if Mother had anything to say about that type of shit?
I mean, Jesus Christ, what the hell is wrong with these people?
As one of my Twitter bros would point out here, in typical British Understatement "No, they did not think this through" regarding the implications of that statement.
And I'm going to be honest, in the last couple of years...but especially in the last year...this crap has gotten endlessly worse.
For some Republicans, Trump's election loss was some sort of political martyrdom on the part of their Orange Savior and it has only gotten worse, MAGA has become the new INRI.
And today, the RNC voted to censure Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney. I mean, what the fuck?
There was a time when something like that would have resulted in an invitation to go Duck Hunting With Dick to talk it over...and somebody who is Not Dick would have got shot in the face.
(And then later issued a groveling public apology for getting shot, too.)
Actually it
still might be that way, Darth Cheney doesn't seem to like Trump all that much, but at the same time they don't seem to be making Republicans like they used to.
Well, mostly, anyway.
Mitt Romney spoke up in defense of Cheney and Kinzinger.
But, I hate to tell you this...and yes, I actually do, being that I'm a former (R) myself. It won't do any good and it won't have any effect.
Because, you see, Mitt is also one who has been Cast Into The Outer Darkness.
Except in his case it was simply because Trump does not like him. He got elected anyway because, well, Utah. But Mitt Romney is so disliked by so many Republicans that RNC Chair Ronna Romney-McDaniel dropped the Romney and liked it.
So...Cheney and Kinzinger, Lindsey Graham and Mitt Romney, and now Mike Pence sticks the knife in, too.
But five people do not a remake of Julius Caesar create.
That's...five people...out of an entire political party.
I don't see Trump or anybody else looking at Pence saying "Et Tu, Mike?"
There does seem to be a faction of Republicans forming up around people like Ron DeSantis who'd kind of maybe possibly like to break away or move on from Donald Trump, but there's a distinct vibe of "If that's Okay with you, Mr. Trump, Sir" to a lot of that shit. They'd still allow him to play kingmaker and thus give him all the power and none of the responsibility...or accountability...that being an elected official theoretically creates.
And that kind of crap just can't stand. This is America.
Either you believe in freedom or you don't.
Be nice if Republicans remembered that.
If you want a better country, you have to be a better citizen.
Or at least have enough common sense or self-preservation instinct to stand up against people who were literally coming to kill you over a year ago.
This ain't hard.
Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
For thus saith the Lord God; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to naught. Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel. ~Amos 5:1-6
