Behold, He is in the desert! (Left Behind Is A Lie, Again. Three)

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ~Matthew 24:24-27

Today, a crowd of Q-Anon believers massed in Dallas, apparently expecting that JFK Jr. and possibly Kobe Bryant and Robin Williams would "return/" from the dead because Something Something Gazpacho that they saw on the internet and somehow JFK Jr. would magically become Vice President, or something.

(I mean, at least he was in the right party...)

What the fuck?

I mean, first of all, why are all these people waiting for a dead guy? A dead Democrat who would almost certainly reject everything they stand for, at that?

As somebody else posted, what is it with these people that they think they have to turn every dead celebrity into some kind of "Hidden Imam" for Trumpism?

Especially people that they must know would have rejected Trump right out the gate, or actually did. Good God, can you imagine the shit somebody like Robin Williams would've said if he was still around?

I mean, seriously, what the fuck?

I'm going to bust out with what may be an unpopular opinion here and I don't give a fuck. Shit's got to be said anyway.

This is the direct result of the fact that the doors to the average church could close forever and the surrounding neighborhood wouldn't even notice...and this seems to go double for more conservative or political churches in particular.

It's the fruit of too much Pentecostal woo woo bullshit, too much self-help-y feelgood horse shit and of political conservatism (whatever that even IS now...) being preached as Christianity.

There's no...

I mean, seriously, words fail me here.

There's basically no reason at this point in a hell of a lot of cases, for anybody to even believe in Conservative Christianity anymore. When was the last time you heard an Evangelical talk about Jesus? It's all Culture War and Trump, all the time with too many of these people...and how they're going to save the world and bask in glory and then live happily ever after with *Checks Notes* Donald Trump?

They're not preaching the Word of an itinerant Rabbi from Judea, they're trying to evangelize people into White Conservatism and a holy trinity of profit, racism and the odor of roast beef farts and stale cigar smoke at the Elks club.

But what does that do for the people that are already white conservatives? Or for that matter, those who by dint of ethnicity, income level, race, or sex don't get to join this shitty little club?

What's in it for...anybody who isn't already getting too much, really?

What if you're a former Republican like me who realized years ago that this shit wasn't working?

What's even the damn point?

Over the course of just my own life, these people have effectively removed all but the most vacant platitudes about Divine love, Eternal life or the saving Grace of Jesus Christ from Christianity, let alone the forgiveness of sins. And sin itself, as a concept, has become something other people do. Even helping or simply caring about other people has largely fallen by the wayside.

And for what?

No, most of this wasn't for some grand theological reason.

It was because preachers and ultimately whole denominations became more interested in telling people what they wanted to hear (so that they could keep their easy job) than in being leaders, spiritual or otherwise. Denominations and organizations became far more interested in accruing political influence and cultural cachet than they were in supporting the needs of their rank and file members.

It became easier to make people feel good about themselves so that they'd keep coming and giving these fuckers money, than it was to tell them the truth and risk that somebody might get mad.

And not only that, the End Times are not upon us despite a generation of people saying they were.

None of the promised revivals or this or that's or the other things ever turned up. Instead, they can notch up the credit for people like Harold Camping, Ted Haggard and Jerry Falwell, Jr. while looking back on worthless bullshit like the Left Behind series books and the 2012 hysteria...which had its origins in absolutely nothing whatever to do with Christianity or Christ.

In fact, almost nobody acts more like they know Christianity is all bullshit these days than Biblically Inerrant Creationist Conservative Christians.

So, you tell me why people wouldn't fall prey to conspiracy theory stupidity?

Again, what's even the point?

They've already been being told they have to check their brains at the door of the church for a generation or more. How is one set of woo woo bullshit beliefs any different than any other?

Why not just grab onto any old conspiracy theory, any old thing no matter how asinine, if it at least offers them the hope...however illusory...of something actually happening?

And now between the Anti-vax shit and the Q-Anon shit, it's fairly stupidly obvious that these people, many of them lapsed or nominal Christians themselves, can simply edit Jesus and any expectations of moral behavior right out of their worldview while splicing in all this conspiracy crap instead.

Congratulations, Christians, you did this to yourselves.

Have fun.

Two.
