Apparently, the Russian Army is chaining some of their soldiers in place during the fighting in Ukraine, to prevent desertion. So, naturally, the soldiers are freezing to death in the cold. Like something out of 1980's Afghanistan, or worse.

This seems like some kind of horrible fate straight out of science fiction.

 Again, and I'll keep saying this for as long as it takes, this is the world that "Conservatives" want to live in: The cruelty is the goddamned fucking point.

Maybe it's just me, but I think if somebody tried to chain me in place in an effort to keep me fighting in some frozen hellhole, they'd have a fight on their hands and meet my weapon real up close and personal. I mean, seriously, what in the hell is wrong with these people?!

Sadly, when I saw this wasn't the first time I asked that, today.

This was.

Some idiotic Trump Supporter saying the Democrats, George Soros and the Tech companies brought "Communism" to America and "They all need to be in jail for treason."

Being a Communist isn't illegal, and I say that as somebody who doesn't have much use for Communism.

That said, these same fucking people support the very man whose Army is invading Ukraine while flying the Hammer And Sickle from its armored vehicles and trucks. 

Even as elected Republicans mostly scurry away from supporting Putin and Russia, the base, doubtless pushed that way by Tucker Carlson, seems to be either denying reality or embracing Putin and Russia gladly because "Culture War" or "Own The Libs" or some stupid shit. 

I keep trying to tell these people, look, the Russians are not your friends, they don't give a fuck about you, they don't support you and they're not your allies.

What part of "Flying the Soviet Flag from their tanks" don't you understand?! At a minimum, the Cold War has been back on for a decade or so now. We're very likely facing the possibility of World War III in a few days or weeks here, and we've been damned lucky that the Ukrainians are holding their own. You don't like higher gas prices? I'm here to tell you, it could be much worse.

Had their "Special Operation" in Ukraine gone according to plan, or even been the sort of hard, but short fight that a lot of people were expecting, the Russians would be swarming into the Baltic States and Poland and certainly getting their ass kicked by NATO now, but we'd be at war and likely in a nuclear standoff as well, praying the Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians and various forward-deployed units can hold on 'til we got more troops over there.

Think about that, for a second.

There was a Trump rally in South Carolina today, and the whole damn thing was full of obsequious Trump-fluffing and performative stupid shit. The convoy idiots are still driving around the DC beltway trying to prove some kind of idiotic point, while failing to realize there just aren't enough of them for most people to even notice what they are.

And, mind you, with all of these fucking people that's the important part...that they be seen acting like complete idiots...and glorified for it by other idiots. 

And I'm not going to lie, I think that the Republicans in general and the MAGA clown-suit brigade in particular are all completely unequipped to deal with this crisis.

If you're dumb enough to "Trust Trump completely" as far as I'm concerned you've got some real problems. But it actually is worse than that. A lot of these "truckers" in Maryland and shit cannot even handle harsh language and obscene gestures...much less correctly define political philosophies like communism, fascism, or nationalism. I guess they just don't make people like they used to, or something.

How the hell do these idiots think they're going to fight a civil war against the rest of us?

How in the hell do these people think they're going to deal with complex multilateral problems like the fact that the Iranians hit the US consulate in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan earlier tonight, at the same time as we're dealing with this major crisis in Ukraine??

I'm thinking, at the very least the Iranians decided to push their luck while we're distracted. It's very possible in a worst-case scenario sort of way that the Iranians could be working with the Russians to distract us and divide our attention.

I sure as hell wouldn't put it past them, and I'd expect somebody like Putin might try and set this kind of shit up, knowing that it'll set off the Republicans like ringing the bell for Dr. Pavlov's Schnauzer. I have absolutely no faith that these fucking people will act rationally.

And that's what I think before we get to the propeller-beanie wearing, Shofar-blowing weirdos of the Trump crowd who are literally standing here tooting their own horns trying to impress somebody. I mean, seriously?

Listen, guys, if anything Jesus is laughing at you. The Bible says not to pray on street corners and act all religious in Man's sight to try and impress people and that's exactly what all this shit is.

And frankly I still don't know what all this "Convoy" bullshit is even about, from what I hear none of these fucking people do either. I gather that they're just driving around in circles, trying to do something something Gazpacho but they don't even have an actual list of demands or anything like that...

So, how in the hell do these people think they're going to ever handle a real crisis? Oh, wait, these fuckers can't even identify a real threat. They're too hopped up on all this stupid bullshit.

But see, here's the thing;

We're up against people who are ruthless enough to chain a young soldier to a pole in the freezing cold in the hope that this will make him stay and fight. 

And ideally, we'd like to stop the enemy in Ukraine and avoid this war turning into a wider conflict which it could very easily do, again, I feel like we're on the cusp of World War III here.

And roughly a quarter of Americans still can't get enough of the performative stupid bullshit of the last seven years or so. They couldn't handle a virus, social distancing and wearing a mask. What makes anybody think these people are going to be able to handle dealing with a war?
Well, to be honest, I think they won't. Not just can't...but won't.

And I'm sorry, but I judge the probability that they will simply replace "MAGA" with "Z" and openly support the enemies of our country to be very high.

The chances that these idiots could...or even would...trade in their clown shoes for combat boots and defend their country the way the men of Ukraine are doing are pretty much zero.

If America is to prevail in these conflicts, or even survive, we're going to have to get our collective head out of our ass, screw our courage to the sticking place and do what needs to be done.

When 25% of our population is a bunch of ninnies who embrace authoritarianism, cruelty and performative religiosity but can't even deal with big-city traffic or obscene gestures, in these times I worry for the safety of my country. 

We're going to have to start doing something about this mess, because pretty soon it's going to be our turn...and the Russians, or at least the ones making the decisions, seem to be far worse people than even MAGA's most inflated visions of its own supposed toughness.

And do I think the Russians will fuck with these people and their perpetual reactionary Opposite Day bullshit? Bet your ass I do.

Do I think the rest of us can carry the weight? Sure I do. But do I think we can do it that way and still remain a united country with all these Vichy Americans in our midst? How do we all, here or in Ukraine, return fighting and get through this Red Winter?

That's the part I'm not sure about. Not one bit.
