Some MAGA Republican candidate got held up at the airport and thinks it's discrimination.

I had to go out to my Mom's today. Her Jeep is broke and she needed some groceries. While we were taking a break from a project she needed my help with, I saw this.

In the context of its time, perhaps it's even more Biblical than most things. In point of fact, the political connotations of the sculpture...done between 1501 and 1504 in Florence, Italy...then the center of the Republic of Florence...are a little more complex. Of course I get that modern "Conservative" voters, not following history and never having lived under such themselves, aspire to be goddamned Italian peasants just as their goddamned political leaders aspire to be Borgias and De Medici's, and that both groups desire to kick out everything in the middle between the two.

Never mind how that shit ends, pretty much every time you run the goddamn experiment, though. Italy is perhaps more fortunate than most places in that it was forcibly unified by Giuseppe Garibaldi's Redshirts as a relatively secular state with a constitutional monarchy. 

Lots of other places, Russia for example, weren't so lucky.

But these sons of bitches never think it's going to happen to them. They always assume or believe their church, their interpretation of it, they themselves, will reign supreme and unchallenged forever.

Motherfucker, I live in a downtown apartment building in a relatively small city and within 500 meters of my house there are four churches. Large Catholic and Episcopal churches on the main street at the edge of the given distance...and two more just around the corner on the other side of the motel next door sharing subdivides of the same storefront. One's a nondenominational Evangelical church and the other's some Wesleyan something-or-other. Both predominately pitch their programs for addicts via large posters on the windows in an area that really needs such things.

(And, having been an addict myself, it doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with the source of such programs. Church helped me beat alcohol and drugs at the time. I'm not going to judge anybody else.)

There's at least twenty churches I can think of right off the top of my head in this town, and I know there's more than that. 

So when people say "Every church should run their town" I ask "Which one?"

People fought wars over this kind of thing. 

The whole point of the goddamned reformation was not only economic and political...throwing off the dominance of the nobility and the Church that they funded and through which they often exercised power...but religious and spiritual. It was, for many people, simply about being able to read the Lord's Word in their own languages and being bound by secular rather than religious laws.

The whole point of our Founding and of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights was specifically that Europe's religious wars were still in living memory, the excesses and tortures of Europe's many still quasi-theocratic or outright theocratic monarchies were still an ongoing issue in global geopolitics.

The Founders wanted to avoid all that crap.

Of course preachers like Floyd Brown always think they're going to be the ones dictating rather than the ones being dictated to.

And they never, ever, EVER stop to think that in all their dry-humping with the radical medievalist Catholics or with Russian Orthodox Jihadist dictators that they're playing Just-The-Tip and "Imperialize me, Daddy!" with people who'll see the very idea of Evangelicals, or Independent Fundamentalist Baptists, or Pentecostals and the very (again, right or wrong, it simply is what it is) American ideal of the marketplace of ideas as both a heresy and a threat to the hegemony of the National Church and the State.

They sure as hell don't realize they're playing games with people who are pathologically incapable of giving a fuck about them.

(Again, this is literally the purpose of America, per the First Amendment, that we are opposed to such things.)

And trust me, people like the Sovereign Military Order Of Malta and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill absolutely hate that this ideal of religious diversity has spread to many nations.

I saw...and wrote about...a video not too long ago where lots of bitter old Russians basically said that anybody who wasn't Russian Orthodox was merely in a "Sect." Chances are, "Conservatives" whatever church you go to it's not going to be the dominant one in that kind of world. I'd keep that in mind if I was you. 

These people never, ever, stop to think about the fact that it's the religious people in Ukraine...especially the Evangelicals, Fundamentalists, and Pentecostals...along with Buddhists, Jews, and Muslims...who are fighting the hardest against the goddamn Russian Orcs. This is for one simple reason, those people remember what the Soviet Union was like, or their parents taught them.

And those people don't ever want to go back to that. Having lived under something else, they absolutely don't want to go back to being a Russian/Soviet peasant.

The American "Conservatives" literally aren't thinking about why all those eastern EU countries are busy arming up like a motherfucker right now even as they shovel everything they can at the Ukrainians in the hope that we all can stop it there.

(And I'll note their buddy Viktor Orban isn't rejecting the extensive amount of Western weapons that Hungary has got its hands on in recent years, either.)

Goddamn, it's almost like people who've had to live under an Empire...whether it was religious or (in the case of the Soviet Union) supposedly atheistic and secular...don't want to live under that kind of shit!

And I find it very interesting that it's the conservatives, the Republicans, who until just a bit over a decade ago were still believers in and defenders of things like civic pride and civil liberties (even if they did prefer things their way) and who constantly tout the Classical and Western values for which Michelangelo and his David sculpture stood for are now the same fucking people who want to brand this statue that meant those same things as simply "Pornographic."

Simply because the physical form of it is that of a naked man.

What it represents doesn't even matter to them Hell, it doesn't even exist.

And if they took the time to learn the truth, they'd be offended by that, too.

There are no higher ideals to these fucking people than atavism, fascism, and power.

People were bound together by civilization, not sin, by common allegiance to greater ideals and common rights under a system of laws, not by some kind of enforced sameness.

And that was as true under good leaders like Julius Caesar or Marcus Aurelius as under the evil and the mad like Caligula or Commodus, because these ancient people understood what it was to be part of something greater than the Self.

And I'm sorry, but I'm tired of this creepy deification of Donald Trump now that he faces the real possibility of charges.

Trump isn't even religious. He said himself that he didn't need to ask God for forgiveness. I saw that shit live on CNN in the summer of 2015 while I was standing in the living room talking to my roommate after we'd just gotten home from work.

My roommate at the time was an African-American Baptist, a deacon in his brother's church.

We were both shocked. Speaking as a former conservative, I don't know how it didn't end right there.

But it's more than that. I'm an ex-Christian myself, with an extensive church background and actual theological training on top of a hell of a lot of study of this stuff on my own time...not only in terms of Christian theology but of religion in general. I know the Word...much of it right off the top of my head. When I saw this Tweet, Psalm 91 sprang into my mind unbidden. 

I can still, after all these years, crank out a decent Christian apologetic if I need to! 

I've also studied Buddhism, Gnostic Christianity, Islam, Judaism and various forms of Paganism and Wicca. For fuck's sake, I've even studied LaVeyan Satanism. (As much because I dated an actual Satanist as out of general curiosity once I found out about some of its teachings.)

I'm fucking sorry, but if Donald Trump is your God...or is someone you equate with being a divine or religious figure of any sort...you need to go home and rethink your life.

I've been holding back since I saw on Friday or so that Trump might get arrested today. 

I'm not sure whether or not he will be, but the key point to note is he's sure spent the whole weekend and of course Monday freaking out about it. He sure thinks something bad (for him) is about to happen.

But it's not just him.

The MAGA's and the rest of the "Trump is God" crowd are clearly the same way.

The skeevy grifters like Roger Stone are either A) hoping this is all bullshit and/or that it blows over.

B) They're hoping like a motherfucker that they can find some way to make money off Trump getting arrested or to get political props off of it.

Or:

C) These people are desperately trying to set up an "I FOUND THE LORD!" defense/rationalization/future grift for Trump, which they can also get in on later.

As if nearly every famous person (and many, many not-famous people) who go to jail or get indicted don't do exactly that to the point where it's basically an expectation.

Not least because religious observance generally means that they'll get more time out of their cells (Which, to be fair, is the real reason most people do this.)

And I very much doubt that there would be any Chuck Colson levels of repentance or efforts to make amends or make things a little better for other people still behind bars when he gets out that'd be involved here. Sorry, but I just don't. Trump ain't gonna found no Prison Fellowship Ministries.

It's all bullshit. I frankly don't believe that most of these people who actually have a brain in their heads believe a word of it. No, they outsource the "True Believer" status to the idiots like Hoebert and MTG that come up from the base directly.

But it's not like FOX News themselves didn't just massively prove my point here, just a couple weeks ago.

And it's not like the FOX News crowd doesn't do things, on a constant basis, that literally show to anybody with eyes to see and minds to think, that they have nothing but rabid contempt for their own voter base.

The trouble is, the Base seems to see this and thinks "Insult and objectify me and steal from me more, Daddy!"

And I'll note that when you take the belief in White male Supremacy out of Christian conservatism you end up with something almost completely different from this...but there are way too few of those people, at least in America anyway...and Republicans/MAGA's will usually turn around and tag them as some sort of "liberal" no matter what.

And it doesn't matter what you do, or what you ever did.

And note I say that as a United States Air Force veteran who was a conservative and a Republican when I served, in Bill Clinton's America.

But that doesn't matter to these assholes. Putting country over party and politics isn't even something they can imagine.

And they think everybody else is secretly the same as they are.

Because hierarchy and racism and them having while others do not literally is what "Conservatism" means to these absolute motherfuckers.

Also, this bullshit surrounds itself with a bunch of stank-ass nasty women whose titties are faker than Donald Trump's alleged Christianity and who, collectively, have more plastic in them than the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

There are monsters out there, people. Not in the dystopian social hellscape picture of America painted by Fox News or Newsmax or your local Nextdoor page (and keep in mind that most of that shit is basically itself just coded racism and longing for fascist jackboots) but sitting there in their couches and recliners staring zombie-eyed like a bunch of ADHD kids at the goddamned TV.

And yeah, I saw that bit about the confirmation last night too, admission of the truth of the longstanding belief that Reagan's campaign had colluded with the Iranians to make sure the hostages were released only after Carter lost the election and Reagan was inaugurated, and that this involved a massively illegal quid pro quo in weapons, ammunition, etc.

Don't forget that was after Scumbag Nixon, Ford's pardon thereof, and so on.

I got out in 2008, changed my voter registration to Independent, because conspiracy theories, racism and Sarah Palin were all deal-breakers for me.

And the situation has not improved.

I switched from Independent to Democrat in 2016 for similar reasons.

I think these nuts are about to find out the hard way that most of us simply cannot afford to let them burn down civilization.
