Luke 2:1-14
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

So, naturally Republicans in Iowa chose right now to announce their refusal to participate in a Federal program to provide meals to food insecure kids.
This was deliberate.
The cruelty is the goddamn point.
As was the desire on the part of Republicans to suck up to people who don't think poor kids should get an education at all, past whatever they need to do miserable lower wage work.
If that, really.
These fucking people seem to regard not only social welfare and taxation but whatever forms of democracy don't set them up as the two wolves deciding they're going to eat the sheep...as some kind of theft from them.
And they want some imagined nefarious Other to blame it on.
Because they can't or simply won't understand that the majority of their fellow Americans don't agree with their bullshit.
Worse, it's Christmas and these fucking people want to worship Donald Trump, not Jesus Christ.
If you think we can reason with this shit, don't.
You can't reason with unreasonable people.
More to the point anybody who sees Trump as their Lord and Savior probably lacks either the character or the desire or the intelligence to have faith in anything better than that.
You can't negotiate with this bullshit.
But you can fight against it.
At the end of the day zero-sum motherfuckers aren't going to be happy until they end up with everything and everybody else is just dead.
And the MAGA nuts don't understand that the allies they think they've made... the Russians and the Saudis for example... do not see them as fellow wolves but as the quivering sheep on the other side of the table, who will soon be on it.
They don't get that people like Donald Trump or Elon Musk don't see themselves as Americans, let alone as Americans First.
The nationality of rich people is "Rich People." They don't care about any other.
And that's exactly what Jesus Christ was born on this Earth... and in poor circumstances...to stand against. The Gospel that Jesus preached and died for was not one of ethnic or racial purity, or of Power or prosperity.
Eternal life comes through compassion, not greed.
Remember that, because it's going to be on the test later.
