~The Mandalorian, Episode 2, Chapter Eight, "The Rescue."
I used to be a conservative Christian Republican.Hell, I still very often identify as both a conservative Democrat and an Agnostic Christian.
All my life, until Trump anyway, and especially until the last year or so, Republicans were the people who identified most with the Constitution, with the Law, and with rules-based order and traditional ways of doing things. Now all the people who actually believe in any of that-rather than simply in weaponizing the language of it against Other People-have either been fired or they've quit in disgust.
I'm a veteran, I worked in IT and I worked in food-service and related jobs for over 25 years. There's a right way and a wrong way to do most things. Discipline, established ways, hard work, right and wrong, and yes, Tradition, mean things, for a damn reason.
That ain't the world current Republicans want to live in, not even for a second.
They don't even care anymore.
And honestly, they're getting so they aren't even bothering with the language or to hide that their only beliefs are an upraised middle finger aimed at the rest of the world and varying beliefs in some forms of Miserable Bastardy, Privilege and Slavery with a side of (corrupt and incompetent) rule through Force.
We've got to take the neighborhood back. We've got to go in there. Just forget telling your child to go to the Peace Corps. It's right around the corner. It's standing on the corner. It can't speak English. It doesn't want to speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk. "Why you ain't where you is go." I don't know who these people are. And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. Then I heard the father talk. This is all in the house. You used to talk a certain way on the corner and you got into the house and switched to English. Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't land a plane with "why you ain't…". You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. There is no Bible that has that kind of language. Where did these people get the idea that they're moving ahead on this? Well, they know they're not, they're just hanging out in the same place, five or six generations sitting in the projects when you're just supposed to stay there long enough to get a job and move out. ~Bill Cosby, the "Pound Cake" speech.
They literally don't give a shit about anything else, used to be I'd say "Except making money" but the truth is they don't even care about that anymore.
Not when having a business or money means you can't afford to (or legally) pick and choose your own customers and you have to serve everybody. Often, you have to let new people in just to maintain your profit margin.
And like I said, that's not the world these assholes want to live in. They think of life and the World as like the Elks Club or an HOA, except things don't work like that anymore, and nobody can afford for them to.
We welcome change and openness; for we believe that freedom and security go together, that the advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace. There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev...Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! ~Ronald Reagan
Reagan Wept.
The world got bigger not least because that's what the Ancestors...including people like, yes, Ronald Reagan...intended.
And Republicans went from saying "Tear Down This Wall" to demanding that walls be put up.
A Black Man said "Yes We Can" and now all Republicans wanna say is "No We Can't."
I'm so tired of These Fucking People and their Eternal Anti-Liberal Opposite Day puerile bullshit.
These assholes don't even believe in or want Rights, they want Privileges, and only for themselves.
Like I said, Pam Bondi, at least in that picture, reminds me entirely too much of my ex-wife and for all the bad reasons.
I used to be a Republican and I was not taught that way.
And so tomorrow, as we take the campaign South and West, as we learn that the struggles of the textile workers in Spartanburg are not so different than the plight of the dishwasher in Las Vegas; that the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of L.A.; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people, we are one nation. And, together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story, with three words that will ring from coast to coast, from sea to shining sea: Yes, we can. ~Barack Obama
I couldn't live the way these jerkoffs want to live.
Fuck, I can't even imagine wanting to live that way.
I can't even talk the way these people talk.
And I'm beyond tired of These Fucking People's endless escalating talk about abusing women.
These guys ain't lonely enough.
Nick Fuentes for example is exactly what I'm talking about when I say the only question these idiots care about is "Babylon, or Sodom?"
Look at who he keeps having sex scandals with, and there's your answer to that question.
I helped my partner get her car today, put her and her car on my insurance. She's paying that forward by helping out another friend with their cat this evening. Some of us have to care about and rely on other people whether we necessarily want to or if it's convenient or easy or not.
Like I said, according to the moral universe I was taught, the ancestors decided jobs like vet techs were feminine-coded and that women needed to have rights too, and honestly I'm not "Smart" enough to rationalize that away, no matter how much I might WANT whatever.
It's called caring about other people.
Republicans want a world where "Everything is terrible shit, vote for us" and "It HAS to be THIS WAY" are pretty much the only creeds that matter or are even available. Ideology is a hell of a drug, I guess, but only when it's their own escalating spiral of evil selfish stupidity and suffering inflicted on the undeserving.
Republicans want lockstep for them, but a Crab Bucket for everyone else.
The day is going to come soon when These Fucking People will call a guy a terrorist simply for loving his girlfriend...or indeed for loving anything other than their shitty ideology...and then they'll call the girlfriend a terrorist for having a job.
You want to stop that?
It's going to come down to a fight.
You either believe in freedom or you don't.
And it really is that simple.
Riddick: You think someone could spend half their life in a slam with a horse bit in their mouth and not believe? You think he could start out in some … liquor store trash bin with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and not believe in God? You got it all wrong, holy man. I absolutely believe in God, and I absolutely hate the fucker. ~From the film Pitch Black.
From daydreams on the road there was no waking. He plodded on. He could remember everything of her save her scent. Seated in a theatre with her beside him leaning forward listening to the music. Gold scrollwork and sconces and the tall columnar folds of the drapes at either side of the stage. She held his hand in her lap and he could feel the tops of her stockings through the thin stuff of her summer dress. Freeze this frame. Now call down your dark and your cold and be damned.
