Toxic (Election 2022, Nine.)

Smug, greedy, well-fed white people have invented a language to conceal their sins. It's as simple as that. The CIA doesn't kill anybody anymore, they neutralize people, or they depopulate the area. The government doesn't lie, it engages in disinformation. The Pentagon actually measures nuclear radiation in something they call sunshine units. Israeli murderers are called commandos, Arab commandos are called terrorists. Contra killers are called freedom fighters. Well, if crime fighters fight crime, and firefighters fight fires, what do freedom fighters fight? ~George Carlin

There's something going on lately that I have a goddamned problem with. In fact, I'm fucking sick of it.

It's been a GOP talking point since the Biden student loan forgiveness plan was released.

Firstly, this idea that "Hard-working people" are somehow getting stuck paying for the student loans of some kind of effete wastrel who, ya know, just spent all this money on a goddamned degree but then isn't working because Republican Talking Point or some shit. These fucking people's idea of "Smart" like I said yesterday, basically is "How much do they accept bigotry."

It's ridiculous and I'm tired of it. Chances are, anybody that falls into the stereotype of the big-truck driving MAGA and has a reasonably new truck...they have to afford that shit somehow, and thus had to pay off some student loans themselves somewhere along the way to get where they're at and they know it's complete and utter bullshit. They also know...for the same reasons that I do...that no matter what the circumstances, at some point you're going to have trouble getting by while paying your shit off.

And I ain't never met nobody nowhere who didn't wish they had a little help at that point, that being beside the fact that I've never known a Republican in my life who'd actually turn down a government check.

I've been hearing shit like this my whole life, mostly from people who never went anywhere near going to college, nor had any intention to, who didn't serve in the military and who in many cases had done little, if anything, to better themselves.

It's all bullshit.

Secondly, "Gender studies degrees" this seems to be a particular bogeyman for people who know absolutely nothing about how shit works...or who think somebody else doesn't. And frankly I love the whole insinuation that only rich people get to go to college...or even should...because that's just flat-out not real life in the modern world.

The only person I've ever met in my life who had a Gender Studies degree was an instructor I had for a class one semester; Kerri, A US Coast Guard veteran and Community College adjunct professor. Teaching women's studies courses and things like gender studies and sociology was actually (one of) her job(s.) It was what she wanted to do. Just so happened, that she both believed in public service and knew she was going to need something like the G.I. Bill to get where she needed to go in life. In the spring and summer she worked at the local State Park every season, along with various other of those kind of jobs...including a stint as a search-and-rescue diver for the Sheriff's department one summer...because teaching was what she wanted to do. And as she put it, she had to do all that other stuff to support her teaching habit until she could get something full-time somewhere.

And this was back in the 1990's before the Dot Com bubble popped and you damn near couldn't walk down the street looking like you were looking for something without somebody asking if you needed a job.

When it comes to jobs like that...rural community college professor, lots of social work jobs, etc. a social sciences degree is a social sciences degree and as long as you have the proper state certification you're good. Every community needs stuff like that...and people like that professor, for that matter. The vast majority of Gender Studies students take it as a minor, in my experience...or take a strong minor in something else if that's their major.

When you consider that a lot of the time where they start out is going to be "Middle Management at the local Wal-Mart" or "Care home supervisor" unless they score a really good internship right out the gate, well, the main point of a lot of degrees is simply being able to show you can do the work to get it.

And lots of big-city people do end up in small towns because that's where the jobs are, too. My doctor is from Sudan and spent several years in Detroit, for fuck's sake! When I asked him how he ended up here he said "Capitalism."

Most of the time, small communities are just glad to find somebody who's qualified at all and glad to have them. Most of these rural white MAGA's, if they are what they say they are, should damned well know and appreciate this fact.

Except that to be a Republican these days is to appreciate nothing, yet arrogantly demand everything.

Almost nobody gets a college degree to just go and sit on their ass and expect somebody else to pay for it. This is true no matter how foofy the degree sounds to you.

Outside of Congress, that is, where we've got lots of "Conservative" lawyers, that don't lawyer, more than one educator that hasn't educated in decades, and a surplus of Political Science degrees...and I don't hear anybody complaining about that.

And I'm only gonna say this one time, yo. So listen up. I'm goddamned tired of all this stuff lately being couched as a homophobic dig against LGBT people.

Seriously, yo, if you don't think that everybody deserves a decent job and an education and the chance to be loved and be with the person they want, who also wants them, what's wrong with you?

And I'm tired of hearing about "So-and-so doesn't want to work." Well, you know what? There's always been at least some people like that, and an awful lot of them vote Republican too, and always have.

More to the point, all these people backhandedly trying to glorify manual labor damned well know their old White base sure as fuck doesn't want to do it.

All these MAGA dudes out there, trying to act like John Wayne-type "Toxic Masculinity" should be the norm ought to goddamned well remember that it was all fake, John Wayne wasn't even John Wayne. Aside from the fact that he genuinely was a racist dickhead it was pretty much all just a damn front. Dude wasn't tough, he just played it in the movies.

And shit like that seems to be the point. It's all a big game to these fools.

These fucking people want the kind of Peter Pan existence of a Donald Trump or an Elon Musk, but they weren't born in the right place and are 100% unwilling to do the work to get that, or even to play the "Attention Economy" game long enough to see it pay off.

I suppose it's just a lot...easier...to sit on your ass and take cheap potshots at Democrats on Twitter.

But let me tell you what. I sure don't see no Republicans doing anything to try and make things better.

I'd suggest we dispense with this bullshit narrative that Republicans are some great thing.

"The Cruelty Is The Point" is not political philosophy I want to participate in, and a lot of us got sick enough of this shit during the Trump years.
