I am one of you, you are one of me
Why don't we set the people free?
How I grieve to see fulfillment of prophecy
Naive of me to think things could change
While man remain the same, so war will be for me everyday
No peace no peace for the children of Israel
Gaza cries all the tears from her eyes
Will there be no peace for the children of Palestine?
Shalom salaam shalom salaam
Who will take the blame for the blood of my children
To who does vengeance belong? To no one, no one
We're dying from tanks and suicide bombs
The only answer is to live as one
And justice will come for my sons, and just will come for my sons. ~Ziggy Marley, Shalom Salaam.
I talked to a friend of mine the other night, who I'd not spoken to in several years. When I worked with this guy he was very religious, your basic Evangelical type, and one of several Native American Christians that I knew at the time. Our mutual circle of friends was pretty diverse, and skewed towards collectively being religious or spiritual in nature. Well, it turns out that my friend's now ex-wife and her family did him dirty, and he no longer identifies as a Christian or studies the Bible.
Nearly all of the people from our old group...from when I worked at the casino...are at least less religious than they once were. I feel like that's kind of sad, because I remember how we all drew strength from an often-unconventional shared faith in the adverse environment of an often-shitty job.But ya know, I'm not sure that's a bad thing when the only thing stopping American Evangelicalism from slouching towards the deification of Donald Trump...
...Is the Evangelicals mad rush to deify Vladimir Putin, not in spite of but because of the atrocities the Russian Army has committed in Ukraine.
So much of American Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christianity has become a cult of Right-wing political and social beliefs...that they've forgotten their deity is supposed to be Jesus Christ, not a hoped-for American version of Francisco Franco.
And make no mistake about it, that last is the real objective of it all, the fulfillment of debased desire and the satisfaction of lusts. It's not an accident that the first and so far only thing Republicans have called another Republican out for in a very long time is Madison Cawthorn and his talking about cocaine-fueled sex orgies.
Because it's not about Christ or Christianity anymore, nor even about Conservatism...let alone doing anything simple like finding spiritual truth or maintaining peace of mind or strength of heard in a bad environment like it so often was for me and my co-workers back in the day. From Putin and his Russian armies on down to so many of these American Trump Supporters it's really about simply wanting to kill and steal more than they want to be alive.
In point of fact, not only the cruelty, but the ability to thumb their noses at God and Country alike seems to be the fucking point.
I saw this video earlier today where a Ukrainian soldier, hoping to score a new front plate for his body armor, reached in the center pouch of a dead Russian's vest and found...a stolen MacBook laptop!
I'm a tech guy, I'm a veteran. I could have told the dude how replacing a front center plate with a laptop was going to work out.
But these fucking people never think this shit through. And this kind of thing is sadly typical across the board.
It's not an aberration or a one-off event or even some shitty opportunist. The murders, rapes, thefts and war crimes seem to be coordinated efforts...and in an authoritarian system like the Russian Army, well, this shit wouldn't be happening at all without official approval.
In other words, this is the future "Conservatives" want.
And they want it for America too.
If they get it, they'll try and cover it up with conspiracy theories and outright lies just like the Russians are doing. And he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won't be treated all the same
There'll be a golden ladder reachin' down
When the man comes around
The hairs on your arm will stand up
At the terror in each sip and in each sup
Will you partake of that last offered cup
Or disappear into the potter's ground?
When the man comes around
… Hear the trumpets hear the pipers
One hundred million angels singin'
Multitudes are marchin' to the big kettledrum
Voices callin', voices cryin'
Some are born and some are dyin'
It's alpha and omega's kingdom come
And the whirlwind is in the thorn tree
The virgins are all trimming their wicks
The whirlwind is in the thorn tree
It's hard for thee to kick against the pricks. ~Johnny Cash, The Man Comes Around.
