It's Thursday, of Holy Week. The first day of Passover, traditionally, this is considered to have been the day following the Last Supper, and the day of Christ's prayer in the garden of Gethsemane and His arrest, presumably in the small hours of the morning.
Keep that in mind, as we go along.
I saw this morning that Ammon Bundy, of "Shit all over a wildlife refuge" fame has determined he's going to try to get a thousand people together for Easter, in the middle of a pandemic, just because the government is telling people to keep social distancing. Remember how I said these fucking people are obsessed with forcing a confrontation between themselves and the State? There you go, yet another example.
I'm not exactly sure what they think they're going to get if they win, or even attempt to do this, really. Other than dead, that is. The chances that nobody in a group of 1,000 people will have the virus are pretty damned small, especially considering these people aren't socially distancing in the first place.
Are these people just that determined to die for their shitty, selfish ideology?
Or are they, like the Wisconsin GOP and the Supreme Court, determined to see how many people they can kill, because they have some kind of jack-off fantasies of purging people? Are they just that damn incapable of understanding that the virus will take anybody and everybody and doesn't care about them, their gods, their selfish ideology, their shitty beliefs or their whiteness?
At this point the Republican Party is basically trying to make it so they can use the virus to kill people, simply for trying to participate in our democratic system of government as citizens ought to.
But ya know I'm not quite sure how that works out when these northwestern-state Republican parties are lousy with far-right whack-a-nuts, many of whose prominent members will doubtless be among those who Ammon Bundy is trying to recruit for his
See, here's the thing. I keep hearing from these fucking people that this virus is the actual no-shit Biblical End Times Jesus is coming blah blah blah.
Okay, I'll bite. Let's assume that's true. If that's true, why is Kenneth Copeland still trying to make money as if nothing is out of the ordinary and this virus is just some kind of a plot against Trump or some nefarious plan to inconvenience the churchgoers? And since we have all this technology, much of which these televangelists and shit depend on and use heavily in normal times, why can't any of them get it together to have some kind of a virtual church service and do the smart thing instead of flouting emergency directives and keeping their own people safe? I mean, that offering plate isn't going to pass itself, what are they going to do for money when all their followers who bought into this crap end up dying off?
So far, nobody who's been shoveling this shit has even been willing to try to answer these kind of questions.
They find it easier to accuse "Globalists" and medical personnel of conspiracies to use biological weapons than they do to just stay the fuck home.
I mean, while I DO occasionally get bored, I personally don't understand what the fuck is so hard about just staying the fuck home?
And while we're at it, I'm pretty familiar with a lot of world religions and aside from Satanists, who really don't ascribe to the Christian or even wider Abrahamic interpretations of Lucifer or Satan (and theologically there's no actual agreement on whether those two are even the same entity, the names originate in different languages-Greek and Hebrew-and have different meanings) nobody worships this stuff in even a roundabout way. It is an Evangelical conceit that claims others somehow ascribe to some sort of inverse understanding of their theology in some sort of hope of defeating their "Truth."
Actually, in this day and age the only people who really keep going on and on about the devil are the Evangelicals.
And ya know, there might just be a reason for that.
As I said, tomorrow is Good Friday, the day that Christians observe to commemorate Christ's death and ultimate sacrifice on the Cross and his substitutionary atonement, which is the basis for the remission of sins and God's forgiveness. In other words, all the stuff these right-wing Christians don't ever want you to really have, or to know in any kind of in-your-heart theological sense...because without guilt and worry over sin, manipulation of the masses and social control become that much harder.
They want the Christian calendar to stop here, because they do not want a risen savior who is alive and has His own ideas and thoughts and knows what they do and just might return and chase these grifting sons of bitches out of the temple with a whip of cords, or an AK-47, or perhaps a running chainsaw. No, they want Christ like Vladimir Lenin, stuffed and made eternal only by the wonders of modern taxidermy where everybody can see Him and line up to mourn and be controlled like pliant sheep and pay these fuckers for the privilege.
What they don't realize is that spiritually, in their endless search for political, secular power, they instead impale themselves on the thorns of the garden of Gethsemane, ever reaching for one of the small sacks of silver coins that Judas dropped as he turned and walked away with the mob that the priests ginned up...and then they call it "Righteousness." That is the folly of political, right-wing Christianity. Christ's kingdom is not of this world.
And these fucking people? They lack the imagination to truly understand that there might be a world other than this one. They want the wealth and power and status, but they have forgotten that religion and spirituality bear a cost for the believer too, and most especially for those who would be leaders. They want that cost not to go unpaid, but to be paid by others, preferably those who do not believe. It doesn't work like that.
This, as I've said before, is how you go to hell.
Don't be these fucking people.
Part Six.
Part Eight.
